The best training involves scenarios that are as close to real-world experiences as possible. But, as skills involved become more complex, technical, and advanced, the real risks become more real.
But the desire for real world rescue scenarios to test the skills, abilities, and equipment of rescue teams in Virginia lead to the start of an annual event in 1994 known as Rescue Challenge. And that event was put on every year across Virginia since – with the exception of 2020 thanks to COVID. That’s 25 years of Rescue Challenge.
That event was the brain child of this episode’s guest, Battalion Chief – retired – from the Henrico County Division of fire – Steve Wood. Listen in to how an idea became reality and spawned several other initiatives across Virginia.
