My name is Robby Dawson and after almost 40 years working and volunteering in fire and emergency medical services, I retired – well sort of. Through out those years there were those senior members and mentors who told stories of when ambulances were Cadillacs and turnout gear was rubber and canvas.
They were telling the stories – which always had a lessons learned component – of “the big one” or “the way we did it back in the day”. I always took those stories and lessons to heart, and now many years later, wish I had written them down or better yet, put them on tape.
As the years pass, memories fade and worse yet, we lose those individuals who have lived and learned from those stories, lessons, and legends. They are the inspiration for the Firehouse Logbook Podcast – capture the culture, traditions, legacies, and legends from those that created them – and pass them along for everyone to learn from.
